History

It was built in 1865. The Matica Slovenská was established in 1863 as a Slovak cultural and scientific institution, but it has always been engaged in extremely nationalist activities. It was prohibited in 1875 to prevent the spreading of Slovak separatism, but was reestablished in 1919 after the Czechoslovak occupation of northern Hungary.
