He travelled across Central-Asia between 1861 and 1864 in disguise, using the name Rasid Effendi. The first faculty of Turkish studies of the world was established by him at the University of Budapest. He spoke in favor of the Turkish origin of the Hungarian language, which started the so-called \u0022Ugric-Turkish\u0022 war.
